Our Services

Our services are based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis. We use scientifically-proven teaching techniques known for their maximum
effectiveness, such as errorless teaching, teaching to fluency, mixing easy and difficult tasks, and mixing and varying targets. Our teaching strategies
focus on breaking skills down into smaller, teachable parts and then providing reinforcement contingent upon correct responses.

We at Small Steps Inclusion Centre, UAE are determined to provide the best services to cater the needs of Special Children through provision of special education in Dubai. Our team understands how over whelming it can be to raise an an Autistic child which is why we have incorporated the best Inclusion Programs to cater your needs.

Our comprehensive and multidisciplinary services include Occupational Therapy .

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

Behaviour analysis focuses on the principles that explain how learning takes place. Positive reinforcement is one such principle. When a behaviour is followed by a reward, the behaviour is more likely to be repeated. The behaviour analysis field has developed many techniques built on decades of research for increasing useful behaviours and reducing those that may cause harm or interfere with learning. Our therapy methods help students learn new skills and improve behaviour to enhance their quality of life.

Assessment

The first step consists of a comprehensive assessment such as the VB-MAPP (Verbal Behaviour Milestones and Placement Programme). The VB-MAPP identifies strengths and weakness across different developmental areas:

  • Communication (manding)
  • Receptive and expressive language(Listener responding and tacting)
  • Visual skills (VP-MTS)
  • Play
  • Imitation
  • Group skills
  • Academic skills (Reading and math)
  • Social skills
  • Echoic Skills (EESA- Early Echoic Skills Assessment)

The assessment takes place within two weeks of full-time attendance. In case of problem behaviour, we conduct functional assessments to discover the underlying causes. This is the first step towards developing effective behavioural interventions.

Your Child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Based on the assessment, the Centre Manager who is a BCBA (Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst) designs your child’s IEP. We then invite you to discuss the results and your family’s priorities with the Centre

Manager before implementation. We re-assess your child’s progress approximately every 6 months to monitor progress and adjust the IEP accordingly.

Our behaviour technicians implement the IEP under close supervision of the Centre Manager and use positive reinforcement to motivate your child in the learning process. Our teaching methods include direct

instructions and natural environment teaching. We collect data to monitor progress, and the Centre Manager adjusts and expands targets accordingly. Your child will work with multiple therapists to ensure the

generalization of new skills.

Our Centre’s design replicates a mainstream classroom setting to familiarize our students with typical classroom rules and routines. Our daily schedule includes circle time, group activities, 1:1Discrete Trial

Training (DTT), Natural Environment Teaching (NET), meal-times, and outdoor play.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapist (OT) assesses your child in the areas of fine- and gross-motor skills, sensory processing, and self-help skills. Our OT makes use of behavioural techniques such as systematic

Desensitization, forward- and backward chaining, shaping and positive reinforcement. Systematic desensitization may be used, for example, to gradually expose a child to aversive sensory stimulation.

Chaining techniques are used to teach daily living-skills by streamlining these into smaller teachable units. Our behaviour technicians implement most occupational therapy targets daily as part of yourchild’s overall programme, while the OT directly implements techniques that necessitate high-level training. Our

OT also advises on environmental modification to create the optimal learning conditions for your child.

Benefits of a Multidisciplinary Approach

Our team members combine their diverse and complementary career skills, professional experiences, qualifications and skills that contribute to a balanced intervention plan for your child. Having an

Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist on our team means we have the tools to address all your child’s needs in a collaborative and synchronized way.
